Steep and Difficult Paths

Spring is the time for taking walks, breathing fresh air and enjoying the scenery. That is exactly what these business colleagues had in mind as they slipped away from a business conference. Since they had a thirty minute stretch break, the ladies thought there would be time to stroll and relax on one of the local walking paths. Unfortunately, they strolled right by the sign at the trail's beginning. The sign read simply, "This is a Steep and Difficult Path."

The trail began its descent down the mountain. The ladies jumped down from one area to the next, holding onto branches to steady themselves. Soon, they thought, we'll get back to level ground. But as the rough going continued, the group soon decided that maybe this wasn't such a great path to have taken after all. When they glanced behind them, they realized with horror that there was no way to climb back up onto the rocky crags without mountain climbing gear. (All they had were their conference workbooks and purses!) So they had to keep moving forward in spite of the treacherous terrain. Hours later, bruised and exhausted, they stumbled upon a roadway where a good citizen with a pickup truck gave them a lift back to the conference center.

It would be nice if we could reverse course and make our way quickly and safely back when we find ourselves on one of life's steep and difficult paths. But that is not always possible. In those times, the only answer is to steel your resolve, summon your courage, and stay the course. Be strengthened today on your journey.
